Mass appeal retro gaming continues on the Nintendo Switch this week following the release of Pac-Man 99. Replacing Mario 35, Pac-Man 99 offers a similar battle royale experience, with up to 99 players.
Coined a “Pac-Royale” the 40 year old game plunges you into simultaneous multiplayer action as you fight to be the last Pac-Man standing. The new release, which is free to pay, features a bunch of new strategies to defeat ghosts and other players:
- Eat Power Pellets to turn the ghosts blue and make them vulnerable. Eat them to send Jammer Pac-Man to your opponents! The more ghosts you eat, the more Jammers you’ll send!
- Eat a Ghost Train for a huge comeback!
- Gain the upper hand by switching between eight different preset strategies: speed up, send extra Jammers, and more. Switching at just the right moment could give you an edge over your rivals!
Pac-Man 99 also features some DLC for theming your game. With 20 classic themes to change the default graphics and sounds, you can make Pac-Man 99 look like GALAGA, Xevious, and other titles.
Pac-Man 99 is free on the Nintendo Game Store, and isn’t expected to be a short-term release like Mario 35. Instead it is more likely to be available long term like Tetris 99.
