Last Updated on September 12, 2023

PLAION, a global leading publisher and developer of video games, and Atari, one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers, today announced global pre-order availability for the Atari 2600+, a modern-day faithful recreation of the pioneering console that first appeared in 1980.

The Atari 2600+ will be released on November 17, 2023 and is now available to pre-order for €119.99 / £99.99. The iconic hardware can now be pre-ordered in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Amazon has announced an exclusive release of the console in some locations. You can order the Atari 2600 Plus in the UK now for £99.99.

Key features of the Atari 2600+

  • Design: The Atari 2600+ has a wooden front panel and a black plastic case, just like the original console. The controls are also the same, with two joystick ports and a power switch.
  • Compatibility: The Atari 2600+ is compatible with both Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 cartridges. This means that you can play all of your favorite classic games on one console.
  • Wide screen mode: The Atari 2600+ has a wide screen mode that allows you to play games in a widescreen format. This is great for modern TVs, which are typically wider than old CRT TVs.
  • Included games: The Atari 2600+ comes with a 10-in-1 game cartridge that includes some of the most popular classic Atari games, such as Pong, Asteroids, and Missile Command.
  • Joystick controller: The Atari 2600+ comes with a CX40+ joystick controller that is faithful to the original. This means that it has the same size and layout, so you can feel like you’re playing on the original console.
  • Compatibility with original cartridges: The Atari 2600+ is also compatible with original Atari cartridges. This means that you can use your old cartridges on the new console.

The Atari 2600+ comes with a 10-in-1 game cartridge and a CX40+ joystick controller for that added touch of nostalgia. The CX-30 paddle controller with 4-in-1 multi game cartridge is also available for pre-order for €34.99 / £29.99. A standalone CX-40 joystick will retail for $24.99 (€22.99 / £19.99).

Additional launch titles, including cartridges for Berzerk Enhanced Edition and Mr. Run and Jump, will also be available for the Atari 2600+ for $29.99 (€29.99 / £24.99).
