Playdate Pre-orders Open Thursday July 29th

Crank powered, retro-feel handheld game system Playdate is finally set to launch this month when pre-orders open for the quirky device.

This Thurdsay, July 29th, at 10:00 AM PDT, you’ll get the chance to secure your own Playdate, and begin imagining various uses for that handcrank.

In an email to subscribers this week, the Playdate team announced the forthcoming pre-orders, following a couple of early device reviews by handpicked, lucky outlets (such as Gamespot).

Before you get too exicted, note that pre-orders will require full payment, and are limited to two units per person. Take that, scalpers. Also, pre-orders can be cancelled at any time for a full refund.

Playdate has revealed that the pre-orders will not “sell out.” The first batch of devices will ship in late 2021, with additional devices shipping in 2022. However, where you live will impact on whether you order. Currently, only the following countries can be shipped to:

United States (including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands)
United Kingdom
Canada
Australia
Belgium
Denmark
France
Germany
Ireland
Italy
Japan
Netherlands
Poland
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
