This is the kind of announcement retro fans really live for (it’s certainly one I’m looking forward to!). H2 Interactive and MOSS Co., Ltd. are officially bringing the entire Raiden Fighters Trilogy to modern consoles. The Raiden Fighters Remix Collection will launch on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on February 26th, 2026.

Interestingly, thematic ancestor Scion has just been re-released as part of the Arcade Archives series.

The Raiden Fighters series—Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2, and Raiden Fighters Jet—are not just great shooters; they are regarded as some of the finest, most intense examples of the vertical shmup genre to ever grace the arcade. Nearly 30 years after the original release, this is an overdue archival effort.

What do you get in the Raiden Fighters Remix Collection?

The package delivers six different versions in total, including both the Japanese and international versions of all three titles. For the serious shooter fan, this is critical. The two versions often feature distinct stage layouts, enemy placements, and scoring elements, essentially providing two different games under the same title.

More importantly, MOSS is adding the crucial quality of life (QoL) updates that make these notoriously difficult games accessible for learning and mastery:

QoL FeatureImpact on Gameplay
Retry FeatureAllows instant re-entry to the start of a stage, eliminating the frustration and lost time of having to restart an entire run just to practice a tricky section. This is crucial for score chasing.
Beginner-Friendly FeatureA mode where enemies do not fire bullets. This is essentially a training tool, letting newcomers learn the intricate stage layouts and scoring systems without the immediate threat of death.
Settings CustomizationThe ability to pre-configure your preferred game settings from the start provides convenience and immediately gets the player into the action.

New visuals and remixed sound

The Raiden Fighters series was known for its dense pixel graphics and high-tempo, intense sound. This collection offers some fresh presentation:

  • New Main Visual: The physical package features entirely new art by Hidetaka Tenjin, a renowned Japanese mechanical designer known for his work on the Macross and Gundam series. This guarantees that the key aircraft from the trilogy are presented with the level of quality they deserve.
  • Remixed Soundtracks: The original music is being revisited by composers including Soshi Hosoi (Deathsmiles, Raiden IV x MIKADO REMIX) and Kazushi Tsurukubo (Raiden III x MIKADO MANIACS). Players will be able to customize the background music for each stage, blending the classic sound with 30 newly remixed tracks.

The decision to release the three titles individually alongside the complete physical and digital bundle is a smart move, giving players flexibility. With the addition of an online ranking system, this collection elevates the Raiden Fighters trilogy from a set of arcade relics to a definitive, competitive modern release.
