Star Wars: The Phantom Menace has a chequered reputation. So much so, that when originally released in 2000, this game was called “Jedi Power Battles.”
Clearly, this was preferable to being associated with the 1997 prequel movie.
Well, like a resurrected Palpatine, it is back. Aspyr, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, has brought the isometric 3D brawler to modern consoles and PC. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, this remaster features updated controls, 10+ new playable characters, two-player couch co-op, and all content unlocked from the start.
What Is STAR WARS: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles ?
STAR WARS: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles throws players into intense arcade action. It takes in iconic locations from The Phantom Menace, allowing them to wield the Force as iconic Jedi like Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Key Features:
- Remastered Gameplay: Experience the classic side-scrolling action with updated controls and modern conveniences.
- Expanded Roster: Play as all secret characters and levels from the original game (such as Darth Maul, Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala). Also featured are 10+ new playable characters like the Rifle Droid and Tusken Raider. Maybe less interesting, but thanks to Battlefront 2, they’re really popular.
- Couch Co-op: Team up with a friend in two-player couch co-op to conquer the campaign and bonus mini-games.
- Classic and Modern: Toggle between classic and modern controls, customize lightsaber colors, and enjoy classic cheat codes like Big Head Mode.
Before you go and throw your money at this, remember that Aspyr has had some trouble with Star Wars games. Its previous attempts to remaster classic titles have run into various roadblocks and controversies.
STAR WARS: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam for £17.99/$19.99.
