You can now play Minesweeper and classic Windows 3.1 games on your Game Boy… well, once the stock is replenished.

Okay, so picture this: it’s 1995. The dial-up is screaming, the Spice Girls are on the radio, and you’re supposed to be doing your homework. But what are you really doing? Click, click… BOOM! Another Minesweeper game bites the dust. Good times.

But what if I told you that you could relive those glory days… on your Game Boy? Yeah, you heard me right. Some absolute mad lad named Rubén Retro has crammed a mini-Windows 3.1 into a Game Boy cartridge. It’s called GBS Windows, and it’s blowing my mind.

Game Boy Studio makes Minesweeper

This isn’t just some half-baked port, either — this thing’s got Paint! Remember spending hours drawing pixelated masterpieces in Paint? Now you can do it on the go! And get this – it supports the GB Printer! I’m picturing some serious 90s-style pixel art being printed out as we speak.

But wait, there’s more! It’s got a media plater! You can listen to music tracks while you’re, I don’t know, pretending to work? It’s even got Minesweeper! Okay, I might be a little too excited about that, but come on! It’s Minesweeper on a Game Boy!

And for those of you with a musical bent, there’s a Piano app. You can play tunes, adjust the rhythm, the tempo, the tone! It’s like a tiny portable keyboard in your pocket.

Here’s a look (you might want to use the translation tool):

Finally, because every good operating system needs a good distraction, there’s Cannon Game. It’s a simple, addictive little shooter that’s perfect for wasting time (not that I would know anything about that).

It’s a sell-out!

Now, for the bad news: the initial run of these cartridges is SOLD OUT. I know, I’m crying on the inside too. But fear not, fellow retro gamers! There’s talk of more being made for the Etsy store, so keep your eyes peeled!

Huge props to Bit Scrive for the tunes and Rubén Retro for making this 90s kid’s dream come true. This is what Game Boy homebrew is all about!
