With the launch of Metroid Fusion for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass in the Game Boy Advance library this week, the hype surrounding the game may be further fuelled by a Director’s Cut HD version of the 2002 commercial for the original game release.
This live action showcase known as “Parasite”, with CGI enemies and action-packed sequences was uploaded to YouTube by user Shinesparkers. With its cinematic style voiceover and Samus’ dramatic entrance towards the end, its interesting to look back on the gaming commercials that were released over a decade ago. Now, it can be enjoyed in HD and remembered for all its retro greatness. With no age rating or footage of gameplay this trailer decided to take a more immersive approach.
Trailer director Bruce Hunt was interviewed by Shinespakers. When asked about Nintendo approaching him to make the commercial he explained:
“I had been working with the agency Leo Burnett Chicago on a few Nintendo commercials previously, including Nintendo 64 colour consoles, Excitebike 64, Super Mario Kart, and we’d always had a blast making them.
They asked me if I’d like to make Metroid Fusion and I jumped at it – knowing that Alex Proyas was doing the Prime Evil TVC. The script was tight – just 30 secs, so we were having to be clever with storytelling, making it feel like a film trailer – but I snuck in some extra shots that you see here for longer version.”
There’s no better way to relive the memories of Metroid Fusion!
