Japanese indie publisher/developer of high-quality pixel games Odencat Inc is releasing a retro-style turn-based JRPG game, Meg’s Monster, on March 2nd, 2023. This game is set for release on PC, Mac, Linux (including Steam Deck), Xbox, and Switch systems.
In development for the past two years, the game is Odencat Inc’s most ambitions release yet, and features multi-language options and an innovative battle system. The game chronicles the tale of two unlikely friends, protecting a child – and the world – from that same child’s own terrible apocalyptic power.
That child is the eponymous Meg, who finds herself in a world of mutants and monsters with a penchant for breaking their fast with raw humans. Roy and pal Golan aim to get Meg back home, scouring the Underworld for a trace of Meg’s mother and uncovering secrets.
With 50,000 words of dialogue and a compelling narrative, the the retro-themed graphics draw you into a far more complex, challenging, and amusing RPG. Each battle features unique mechanics and minigames to master, while keep Meg happy. If Roy gets hurt, Meg will get upset.
Meg’s Monster features sound by Monster Hunter, Hi-Fi Rush, and Atelier Ryza 2 composer Reo Uratani, with a main theme of ethereal, otherworldly lyrics written and performed by Laura Shigihara (Plants vs Zombies and others).
While not a genuine retro title, this is a JRPG game with a fascinating concept and mechanics. You can find Meg’s Monster via the links on Visit Odencat Inc’s Meg’s Monster listing for online store links. It should set you back £14.99.
