Sci-Fi Horror RPG/Dungeon Crawler, Hibernaculum has just reached its funding goal on Kickstarter.

The developer, Wormwood Studios, is most well-known for its atmospheric point & click adventures Strange Land and Primordia, but this time around, the studio is building a different type of game altogether.

Hibernaculum is a first-person dungeon crawler set in a vast derelict spaceship. The Kickstarter page teases all manner of grotesque monsters that inhabit the world, including my favorite, a radioactive slug.

The team has drawn inspiration from classics like System Shock and Resident Evil 2 for some horror elements. They also mention Baldurs Gate and Fallout for the RPG systems. You can view some gameplay snippets in the reveal trailer aboveAs with any Kickstarter project, nothing is set in stone, but if all goes well, a tentative release date has been set for Q3 2025.

At the time of writing, Hibernaculum has smashed its funding goal of £38,260 with over two weeks still to go. Most stretch goals haven’t been reached yet, but the ones that are live add a walking R.I.O robot to the game and a Nintendo Switch release. This is on top of the originally planned release platformers, PC, Mac, and Linux.

The Switch has become my retro and 2D game platform of choice lately, so I’m very happy about that last part! If you want to pledge or read up on the project, check out the in-depth Kickstarter page.
