Comedy legend and international superstar The Rik Mayall’s Nintendo ads can all be found in a single YouTube video.
The late comedy actor – known for Drop Dead Fred, Bottom, The Young Ones, The New Statesman, and others (not to mention three scene-stealing appearances in Blackadder) – starred in a series of commercials for Nintendo consoles and games in the 1990s.
Full of the vim and vigour fans of the late star would expect, the video demonstrates the star’s range, from super suave sex symbol to the outspoken “Rik” character best known from The Young Ones. There’s also a take on his character Alan B’Stard from The New Statesman.
Rik Mayall Nintendo ads breakdown
Mayall’s Nintendo adverts in the video above are for:
- Zelda
- Starwing
- Street Fighter
- Tetris 2
- The Game Boy
- Nigel Mansell’s World Championship
- Super Mario Bros. 1, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels compilation
Would you get a self-described international megastar advertising video games like that in the 2020s? Probably not. Which is why this is a video compilation to cherish, admire, and thank God that you don’t have to watch Russell Kane trying to pull off.
