Sonic fans, get ready: SEGA of America has teamed up with retro hardware maker My Arcade to release two new Sonic the Hedgehog–themed mini gaming devices — and they’re available now.
The new line-up includes the Sonic the Hedgehog Mighty Player, a deluxe handheld arcade unit with multiple classic Sonic titles built in, and the Sonic the Hedgehog Joystick Player, a more compact, joystick-equipped portable for on-the-go play.
Each unit sports a striking Sonic-blue exterior, and I can really see these devices being popular with young fans of the movies as well as retro gamers and collectors.
Sonic the Hedgehog Mighty Player
The Mighty Player is the premium option — and the one likely to catch collectors’ eyes.

It’s fully licensed and fully playable — essentially a tiny portable arcade built just for classic Sonic.
This is currently only available in the USA,
Sonic the Hedgehog Joystick Player
For players who prefer an old-school joystick feel, the Joystick Player offers a neat, affordable alternative.
- MSRP: $59.99/£91.80 (Amazon US | Amazon UK)

- Screen: 3.5″ full-colour display

This one’s designed for simple pick-up-and-play retro fun, complete with a chunky joystick reminiscent of 1980s portable arcades. You can find this on Amazon now.
Christmas gifting?
While I don’t think either device will be popping up in many sales between now and Christmas, they’re both ideal gifts for retro gamers. But… the reviews on these devices are mixed. On Amazon, both score in the 3-star zone, with comments about sound delays and control issues with some models of the Sonic the Hedgehog Joystick Player.
