It’s sad when classic games developers and publishers sail off into new adventures. So the return of Sunsoft is something to savour.

The publisher of Blaster Master, Batman, and many others this week confirmed its return, with the first new releases slated as Ikki Unite, a sequel to medieval farming rebellion title Ikki which adds online multiplayer to the originally single player title.

Also coming are Gimmick!, the Metroid-esque Hebereke, with Sunsoft ready and able to exploit its back catalogue of familiar games that have hitherto remained largely untapped.

There is even talk of a new version of SNES/Mega Drive game Acro the Acrobat

You can expect to find Ikki Unite and all the other games on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam in the coming months

Gimmick! (which saw a Scandinavian release) and Hebereke (which features Metroid-like mechanics and was released in North America for the NES under the name Ufouria: The Saga
