What better way to spend the summer than multiplayer plumber-themed football action in new Switch 2 GameCube game Super Mario Strikers?
Well, as a fan of football games, I’m feeling blessed this week. First the Jaleco Goal! re-release, and now this, Super Mario Strikers on the Switch 2.
Issued to expand the GameCube library on the Nintendo Switch 2, Super Mario Strikers is pretty much what you would expect. A multiplayer game with FIFA-style isometric view, the game pits one team of Marioland characters against another, complete with special moves, power-ups, and the inevitable turtle shells.
The synopsis says:
Mario and friends clash in this extreme soccer game originally released for the Nintendo GameCube™ system in 2005. Matches unfold with white-hot speed, intensity, and familiar items, like shells and mushrooms, to give you a boost in crushing your opponent. But the real key to winning is the Super Strike, a powerful shot that can net you two points at once! Jump right in with simple controls, hone your techniques, and hit the pitch with Mario and his friends!
Available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members!
Here’s a look at it to jog your memory:
More new GameCube games coming soon
While the Switch launched with F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and SOULCALIBUR II, the following list of six games is expected to be added to the GameCube app later this year:
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
- Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Chibi Robo
- Luigi’s Mansion
- Pokemon Colosseum
These will probably be issued on a monthly basis, up to and including December. We’ll let you know if that changes, however.
When can you play Super Mario Strikers?
If you want to enjoy the Mario-themed soccer extravaganza, Super Mario Strikers, you need a Nintendo Switch 2 with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
Or if you own a GameCube, you can find Super Mario Strikers on eBay, where it isn’t too expensive.
