New version of The Spectrum is all while, reminiscent of the 1 millionth ZX Spectrum, which was manufactured with a white case in December 1983.

In addition to announcing THE A1200 Amiga replica, Retro Games Ltd dropped the news of a special re-issue of The Spectrum. This “Collector’s Edition” gives you more than a replica ZX Spectrum — it comes with THE QUICKSHOT II joystick, USB drive, a manual, a special edition of CRASH magazine, and even a printer!

What is this new Spectrum?

It’s a follow-up to the 2024 Spectrum, and is being released with a collection of additional hardware. It’s produced by Retro Games Ltd and PLAION, and is a reproduction — with working keyboard — of the original ZX Spectrum.

However, this new all-white edition has come out of nowhere, and has been overshadowed by the announcement of THE A1200 Amiga replica.

The Spectrum Collector’s Edition would seem to match up with the “Special Edition bundle pack” hinted at in the summer. From that list, we’ve also already had the “Special edition mini console release” which I believe to be THEC64 Black Edition.

What games are on this new Spectrum?

As with the main release of The Spectrum, the following 48 titles are included:

Alien Girl: Skirmish Edition • Ant Attack • Army Moves • Auf Wiedersehen Monty • Avalon • Bobby Bearing • Cosmic Payback • Devwill Too • Exolon • Fairlight • Firelord • Football Manager 2 • Freddy Hardest • The Great Escape • Head over Heels • Highway Encounter • The Hobbit • Horace Goes Skiing • Jack the Nipper • Knot in 3D • The Lords of Midnight • Manic Miner • Match Day II • Movie • Nodes of Yesod •Penetrator • Phantis (Game Over II) • Pheenix • Pyracurse • Quazatron • Robin of the Wood • Saboteur! Remastered • Shovel Adventure • Skool Daze • Snake Escape • Spellbound • Starquake • Starstrike II • El Stompo • Stonkers • TCQ • Target: Renegade • Technician Ted – The Megamix • Tenebra • Trashman • The Way of the Exploding Fist • Wheelie • Where Time Stood Still

These can, of course, be added to via USB sideloading, made easier with the MICRODRIVE USB device.

Bonus peripherals in The Spectrum Collector’s Edition

Along with the computer, the collection includes a joystick, USB device, and printer.

THE PRINTER: This is a monochrome thermal printer designed for The Spectrum. Thermal printers — the type that makes receipts in supermarkets, or are included in kids toys — are increasingly popular for monochrome printing. I think this is a fascinating addition, one that underpins The Spectrum’s importance not just as a retro console, but as a working computer.

THE MICRODRIVE: A white USB drive with Fusion Paint preinstalled, it resembles the original ZX Microdrive, an external cartridge tape storage device that most people forgot because it was unreliable.

THE QUICKSHOT II: With 8 buttons, auto-fire, microswitch design, plug-and-play USB, this is clearly a revival of the Quickshot II joystick, a versatile controller that is ideal for the majority of original 8-bit titles.

When can you buy this collector’s edition?

Listed at £199.99, The Spectrum Collector’s Edition can be ordered now via Retro Games Ltd’s partner PLAION REPLAI. It will ship in June 2026.
