The digital release of Hamster’s Arcade Archives Bubble Bobble means you can now play the 1986 Taito classic on your Switch or PS4.
Available on the Nintendo eShop and PS Store, Bubble Bobble puts you in control of Bubble Dragons called Bubblun and Bobblun, with you 100 challenging stages to complete to reunite the dragons with their girlfriends.
Bubble Bobble was a staple of the arcades back in the 1980s, a game that look as if it could be realistically ported to pretty much every home computer. And it was: versions were released for Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, NES, SEGA Master System, and various other systems. Various sequels and spin-offs were also released.
So, how did this happen? Why did Bubble Bobble prove so popular?
Regularly cited as one of the best arcade games of all time, Bubble Bobble has cute character design, colurful graphics, memorable music, and that all important factor: playability. The game isn’t too hard to play, but tough enough to challenge you over and over.
