I’m always on the lookout for new classic-style FPS games, and in Tale of the Bullet Knight I might just have found it.

Described as a “roguelike boomer shooter,” Tale of the Bullet Knight is one of the more interesting retro FPS games I’ve seen lately. Marrying a forever lasting roguelike element with bullet hell and the notion of a knight with a pistol instead of a sword, the trailer reveals a game that is utterly frantic — and perhaps nausea inducing:

The game’s narrative background is simple:

Bullet Knight had to drop his sword in order to be able to save his fallen kingdom. You as the player will be given plenty of customizable weapons, items, and some very unique features in order to defend yourself and overcome all your enemies.

Enjoy beautifully crafted animations that bring each character and enemy to life, adding depth and fluidity to the combat experience.

Face off against formidable bosses that will test your skills and strategy, granting you powerful upgrades and revealing secrets about this enigmatic land. Are you ready to embrace the chaos and prove your worth in the arena of the gods? Join the fight now and dive into a world where speed meets strategy!

The game takes place in Middleworld,

Developed by JAKALWIZARDSTUDIO and planned for a late 2025 release on Steam, Tale of the Bullet Knight will feature “frame-by-frame animations, and vibrant pseudo-3D graphics.” It’s intended for Windows 10 and later, and as yet, there is no Steam Deck compatibility. However, it might end up being a VR title.

If you’re interested in learning more, you can sign up for early access playtesting on the Steam page.

Otherwise, watch out for Tale of the Bullet Knight when it hits Steam — head over there to follow the game or add it to your wishlist.
