I dropped into a local retro gaming shop this week, and was blown away at how well organized the place was.

Often, these places are untidy and cluttered, with the vast collections of battered boxes and cases left piled up.

Unappealing, at best.

I’ll share some more thoughts on this at a later date, but it does nicely bring me to curation, specifically a new Bitmap Brothers collection for Evercade. Elsewhere in this mailout, you’ll find our latest competition and news of a recovered NES game that was abandoned in late development.

The Bitmap Brothers Collection 2 confirmed for Evercade

As a dyed in the wool Amiga lover, news of a second collection of games from the “rock stars” of 16-bit gaming for Evercade is good news.

(While I still own an Evercade, at least…) The Bitmap Brothers Collection 2 has been announced this week, and features the following games:

  • Cadaver (1990 game plus the 1991 expansion pack, Cadaver: The Payoff)

  • Gods (1991)

  • Magic Pockets (1991)

  • The Chaos Engine 2 (1996)

  • Z (1996)

The Amiga logo indicates that all but Z are Amiga versions. As Z was not released on Amiga CD32 (it is a 32-bit title) we assume it is the PlayStation version (it was also released on SEGA Saturn, Mac, and DOS).

Here’s the trailer:

My thoughts about the future of Evercade aside, this looks set to be one of the best collections they’ve put out.

(For reference, The Bitmap Brothers Collection 1, which is cartridge 22 and predates the “home computer” line, features Speedball, Xenon 2 Megablast, Speedball 2 Brutal Deluxe, The Chaos Engine, and Speedball 2100.)
