Classic arcade brawler The Rumble Fish 2 is stepping back into the ring — this time with a shiny new makeover for Nintendo Switch 2, launching January 22, 2026.

Originally released in arcades back in 2005 (yes, we’re all old now), Dimps’ cult-favourite fighter is returning with new features, new polish, and one very welcome game mode for team-based scrappers.

A new announcement trailer is out now, showing off the upgrades and the all-new mode arriving exclusively on Nintendo’s next-gen handheld hybrid.

What’s new on Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game features an exclusive Team Battle Mode. Here, you pick three fighters to combat your opponent’s trio, and you slug it out team-style — offline or online. It’s basically the fighting-game version of assembling your dream wrestling stable.

You’ll also find improved graphics, as the game’s trademark Smooth Model Animation (S.M.A.) art style returns with a next-gen shine, and crossplay with original Nintendo Switch consoles is supported if your friends haven’t got around to upgrading to Nintendo Switch 2.

What’s included from previous releases?

The Switch 2 Edition bundles in everything from the 2022 console release — plus all Version 4.0 post-launch content — including:

  • Rollback netcode online matches
  • Selectable aspect ratios
  • Spectator mode
  • Training mode with recording/playback tools

Basically, if it wasn’t in the original arcade cabinet, it’s probably here.

Price & upgrade path

The Rumble Fish 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches at $19.99 / €19.99. Players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version — either digital or physical — won’t need to buy the full game again; they can upgrade to the enhanced edition with a $4.99 / €4.99 Upgrade Pack.

If you’re a longtime Rumble Fish fan or just enjoy a solid 2D fighter with a strategic twist (thanks to its signature 2-gauge system), this might be an easy pickup to kick off your Switch 2 library.
