If you’re tired of vanilla kart racers that stick to just… racing, then get ready to inject some pure, unadulterated 90s chaos back into your life.

QUByte Interactive has announced that the cult classic Street Racer Collection (QUByte Classics) is heading to PC via Steam, bringing a pioneering mix of high-speed arcade action and hilarious brawling.

This isn’t just a straight race; it’s a four-wheeled slugfest, and it’s remembered to this day for its creativity and boldness.

(Don’t say Mario Kart…)

When karting met combat

Street Racer carved out its own niche by daring to combine the speed of a classic arcade racer with the frantic combat of a fighting game. It’s a formula that delivers a serious dose of chaos and personality.

In this game, you’ll race on tracks filled with absurd obstacles and crazy settings, taking you on a bizarre tour from the towering heads of Mount Rushmore to the spooky castles of Transylvania. But success isn’t just about acceleration; you’ll need to master your character’s special moves to physically knock your rivals out of the running.

Get ready to laugh, crash, accelerate, and fight for every corner. Street Racer Collection is pure arcade fun, straight from the past to your screen.

Four games, four ways to crash

This collection offers serious value and preserves a piece of video game history by including four versions of the original game, each with its own quirks and local multiplayer options:

  • SNES
  • Mega Drive/Genesis
  • MS-DOS
  • Game Boy

Across these versions, you’ll find up to 27 unique tracks full of shortcuts, traps, and challenges, plus eight cartoon characters piloting crazy vehicles, each armed with their own special attacks. You can choose varied racing options, ranging from a quick single lap to an 80-lap marathon.

Street Racer’s game modes that go off-road

The collection shines with its innovative modes that go far beyond traditional racing:

  • Championship: Create your own competitions by combining different tracks and difficulty levels.
  • Head-to-Head: Race against a single opponent on a track of your choice.
  • Rumble Mode: The rules are simple—knock your opponents out of the arena!
  • Soccer Mode: You read that right. Play soccer… with race cars! (Note: this unique mode is not available in the MS-DOS version).
  • Practice: Train before competing for real.

The game supports local multiplayer for up to 4 players on the SNES, Mega Drive, and MS-DOS versions (no SEGA Saturn version, sadly), making it an ideal choice for your next retro gaming night.

You can find the Street Racer Collection (QUByte Classics) now on Steam and follow QUByte Games for more announcements.
