Launching soon as a Kickstarter, the Time Crisis AI lightgun is one of several similar devices that are promising to revolutionize FPS games.
Like many people my age, I had a job when I was younger. Post college, I worked in a few local pubs, and had a misguided fancy that I could run one. Thankfully, that notion was knocked out of me, but not before I developed an addiction to spending a chunk of my weekly wages in the amusement arcades on the sea front.
Back in the late 1990s a great wave of modern games were arriving in even the most remote parts of the country, and this was when I first came across Time Crisis.
“She must be dead by now!”
Taking Time Crisis home
All of which brings me to Tassei Denki, the team working to bring us a home-playable version of Time Crisis in time for Christmas. While there have been ports of the game, none has had the benefit of a true light gun experience (unless you’re talking about the home release Time Crisis arcade machine).
Launching under the G’AIM’E brand, the officially licensed plug-and-play package employs next generation AI technology. They aim (!) to be the pinnacle of precision, and these lightguns should work on any display. Meanwhile, the packaged version of Time Crisis — 30 this year — is the original arcade ROM.
What do you get with a Time Crisis AI lightgun?
Supporting this retro gaming crowdfunder means selecting various packages. At present, we know that premium and ultimate packages are planned, which will unlock more games. Point Blank, Steel Gunner, and Steel Gunner 2 are promised with these enhanced project backing options.
Early backers will also get a “G’AIM’E and Time Crisis” keychain as a bonus.
Further details are set to be announced, but in the meantime you can check the pre-launch Kickstarter page, where you can request notification when the project launches on June 24th, 2025.
