Fans of classic arcade shoot ’em ups will soon have a chance to revisit some notable titles. TATSUJIN, a company with ties to the original arcade developer Toaplan, has announced the upcoming release of two collections, Toaplan Arcade Shoot ’em up Collection Vol 1 and Vol 2, scheduled for August 14th, 2025, in Europe.

These compilations will bring a selection of Toaplan’s 1980s and 1990s arcade games to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A physical release will also be available for the PlayStation 5.

Both titles feature games with local cooperative support.

Modern creature comforts

The collections will also incorporate a range of modern features intended to make these classic games more accessible. These include online leaderboards, stat tracking, customizable arcade settings (dip switches), assist features like adjustable hitboxes and increased durability, speed controls, customizable audio and screen options, a rewind function, and a quick save/load system with multiple save slots per game. PlayStation and Xbox versions will also feature Achievements and Trophies.

For those interested in the PS5 physical copies, the first print of Volume 1 will include a special sleeve to house both volumes, while the first print of Volume 2 will contain an “Instruction Card Gallery Book” featuring arcade-style instruction cards for all the games across both collections.
