Commodore Amiga – A Visual Compendium is one of Bitmap Books’ heavy coffee table collectibles, and this new edition is timed to coincide with the computer’s 40th birthday…
The idea that we can celebrate the first appearance of a collection of silicon, metal, and plastic is, frankly, quite silly. Yet the Amiga has had such an impact on so many lives that it’s actually more of a surprise that this computer isn’t still in active production as a mainstream product (as opposed to various modern Amiga systems).
First released in the early 2020s, Commodore Amiga – A Visual Compendium is a 420-page volume looking at over 140 big Amiga games. It features contributions from everyone from Sid Meier to Dave Gibbons, Dino Dini and Stoo Cambridge are in there, as are Charles Cecil and David Braben. It’s a who’s who of 16-bit gaming, and all the words and recollections are held together with commentary — and stunning page spreads and pixel grabs.
40th anniversary reprint
In celebration of the Amiga’s 40th birthday, Bitmap Books has confirmed that Commodore Amiga – A Visual Compendium will be available to buy once again from July 23rd, 2025, which is next week. This follows the book’s appearance at this weekend’s Amiga at 40 event, in Cambridge, England.

In this volume, you can expect to find all the best games on the Amiga, including the Turrican trilogy, Kick Off 2 and SWOS, Zool and Zool 2, Gloom, Frontier: Elite 2, Cannon Fodder, Lemmings… Worms! look, you know that amazing Amiga game you played in the late 1980s early 1990s? It’s in there.
When can you get this Amiga book?
As noted, the book is available to order on July 23rd, 2025. The hardback title is 420 pages long, measures 170mm × 230mm, and comes with a free PDF version. It weighs 2.5kg, and comes shrink-wrapped, with two coloured bookmark ribbons.
If you head over to the Bitmap Books website now, you can be notified when Commodore Amiga – A Visual Guide is avaliable.
