New Commodore CEO tells C64 Ultimate backers that “Amiga is on our radar too.”
I’ve obviously been very excited about the Perifractic-lead revival of Commodore, but so far it’s all been about digital detox and a new Commodore 64. I didn’t dare dream about the Amiga… but perhaps I should.
In a response to backers of the new Commodore 64 Ultimate project, Perifractic — Christian Simpson — has stated that it isn’t all about the 64. Specifically; “Amiga is on our radar too.”
This is, of course, a big shout. It’s pretty brave to come out and say it so early, too, so I would suspect that Christian Simpson has already said as much privately, and to the people currently responsible for the Amiga — all of them.
The troubles of Amiga
If you don’t know (you have been blessed), the Amiga has had a troubled history post-Commodore, with a variety of owners and various IPs and patents split across companies in the EU and further afield. It is for this reason that modern Amiga projects like THEA500 Mini don’t use the Amiga name.
While you can emulate the platform and still purchase an operating system, there is no official Amiga hardware. Perhaps that will change with the new Commodore. After all, the only thing an Amiga needs to succeed — certainly at a basic level — is a working keyboard, an FPGA equipped PCB, and a mouse.

Time will tell how the new Commodore turns out, but if there is a Commodore 64 Ultimate, an “Amiga Ultimate” would make sense. But let’s not get carried away. Some still require convincing of Simpson and co’s good intentions over Commodore, so perhaps handling one thing at a time is the best way forward.
But then again, as we’ve seen, Christian Simpson certainly knows how to pull the right levers to make things happen…
