We recently reported on a Mod Kit by 8BitDo that enabled wireless gaming on an original N64 pad. 8BitDo now has set its sights on the Neo Geo, and the big difference this time is it’s a complete controller.
The controller design looks as sleek as the original, but 8BitDo has added a few ‘modern’ trimmings. The biggest inclusion comes in the form of 2 additional buttons on top of the controller. There’s also a Turbo function, and you can edit the button layout. Even if you don’t have a Neo Geo Mini that the controller is designed for, it’s also compatible with Windows and Android devices.

I’m a sucker for controller liveries, so I find it hard not to be excited by the ‘King Of Fighters‘ themed ones that are on their way. These controllers are officially licensed by SNK, which explains the quality of the stunning artwork.
If you grew up in the 90s, you might be wary of third-party controllers, and with good reason. For the longest time, they were a budget option if the official hardware was too expensive. If the controller didn’t have horrendous build quality, it often felt like comfort was an afterthought.
Fortunately, that’s one facet of gaming that’s stayed in the past. Controllers are big business nowadays, and the most specialized are often unofficial. 8BitDo already has quite a reputation for innovation in the controller space. Hopefully, this latest product is as good as the rest. If you’re interested, you can preorder a wireless Neo Geo controller from the 8BitDo website.
