Solo developer ELSIF has announced Wirelight, a turn-based tactical soulslike with a distinct retro aesthetic, slated for release on Steam and Itch.io in Q3 2025.

Wirelight blends familiar soulslike mechanics – stamina, positioning, and a “buffer” system reminiscent of posture – with a top-down, turn-based approach. Players are given time to strategize, with an interface that previews the consequences of their actions. Resource management is crucial, as each move must be carefully considered.

Combat revolves around breaking down enemy “buffers” before delivering the final blow. Players can attack directly or manipulate the environment, knocking enemies into walls or each other for significant damage. This adds a tactical layer to each encounter.

But what is Wirelight?

The world of Wirelight is presented in a chunky, pixel art style, reminiscent of classic games. Players explore a dense, interconnected metropolis of narrow streets, train stations, research facilities, and hidden pathways, all mysteriously abandoned. Unraveling the history of this small city and the forces at work within it forms a core part of the experience.

Customization is also a key feature. Players can choose from a range of weapons, each with its own properties, and equip “toolsets” that grant special abilities, from time manipulation to enemy deactivation and crowd control.

ELSIF, the solo developer behind Wirelight, has a history of creating interesting genre combinations. Previous projects like Arachnowopunk and Salvagette demonstrate their ability to blend familiar mechanics in new ways. With Wirelight, they’re bringing their unique vision to the tactical soulslike genre, all wrapped in a charmingly retro visual style. The game marks their first release on Steam.

Wishlisting is now available on Steam and Itch.io for those interested in keeping up with development.
