World Video Game Hall of Fame 2022 Newest Inductee: Sid Meier’s Civilization and Others

Last Updated on May 9, 2022

A well-deserved induction into the World Video Game Hall of Fame 2022.

It’s been a long time coming, but the legendary classic strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization has officially been inducted into The Strong’s highly revered World Video Game Hall of Fame 2022.

The Strong National Museum of Play, located in Rochester, New York, has become the home to the renowned World Video Game Hall of Fame. Established in 2015, they’ve taken the daunting yet rewarding task of recognizing only the best of the best in “electronic games of all types,” including both console and PC, handheld and mobile, and others like arcade and VR.

It should go without saying what an honor it is to have something you created acknowledged by such an establishment. However, we’d like to give reference to the types of games that DIDN’T “make the cut,” a phrase I use very loosely so as not to shade the wildly successful titles that follow:

  • Assassin’s Creed
  • Candy Crush Saga
  • Minesweeper
  • NBA Jam
  • PaRappa the Rapper
  • Resident Evil
  • Rogue
  • Words with Friends

The simple mention of those titles might tickle your nostalgic funny bone. As good as those games were, four stood out among the rest.

As of May 5, 2022, Ms. Pac-Man, Dance Dance Revolution, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were all inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame 2022. Along with those incredibly influential titles was the aforementioned Sid Meier’s Civilization.

Very few can deny the validity of its place in the World Video Game Hall of Fame 2022. The Sid Meier team expressed its excitement about the news on its official Facebook page, and its members couldn’t be happier to be a part of The Strong’s Hall of Fame.

Let this be an inspiration for all video game developers out there. If you deliver absolute, undeniable value to the gaming community, whether it’s a single heartfelt review or recognition of the highest form, all that hard work WILL pay off.
