The entire SEGA classics collection on Android and iPhone is about to be retired, so add these free games to your library today.
Back in 2017, SEGA Forever was launched, bringing a collection of arcade and console classics to mobile platforms. But while eight years isn’t quite forever, the time has come for them to be removed. In the past few days, pop-ups for these games have explained that:
“Support for this game will be discontinued, but you can continue playing offline! If you’d like to learn more about great SEGA games to play, please click the link below.”
In short, time is running out to install these SEGA classics on your Android or iOS device, whether phone, tablet, or TV.
We know that SEGA is working on redeveloping some of its classic franchises, so it seems likely this is related to those projects.
Which SEGA classics are being removed?
Some of the games from the SEGA Forever program have already been removed from online stores. Phantasy Star Classics and Vectorman Classic were ditched a few years ago, so unless you installed them at the time, they won’t be anywhere near your mobile games library.
The games set to be removed next are:
- Crazy Taxi Classic (iOS | Android)
- Streets of Rage Classic (iOS | Android)
- Streets of Rage 2 Classic (iOS | Android)
- Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Ed. (iOS | Android)
- Virtua Tennis Challenge (iOS | Android)
- Golden Axe Classics (iOS | Android)
- Shining Force Classics (iOS | Android)
- Sonic CD Classic (iOS/Android)
- Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Ep. II (iOS | Android)
Among games previously removed are Comix Zone Classic, Space Harrier II, The Revenge of Shinobi Classic, and Altered Beast Classic. These are all in my own library, and still accessible for me to play, and I fully expect the other games to remain playable.
So, grab those SEGA classics as soon as possible, and don’t miss out on having a collection of excellent console and arcade games on your Android or iOS device.
