Alien Hominid HD is making its way to Nintendo Switch, courtesy of developer ‘The Behemoth.’ Rather than riding the remake/remaster train like so many others, Alien Hominid HD is simply a ‘Re-Release.’ This makes sense, as Alien Hominid HD was already an upgrade of the original browser-based Flash game.

For those new to the title, Alien Hominid HD is a fast paced, side-scrolling shooter where you play as an alien with a ray gun. Alongside standard gunplay, the Alien is vicious and can even bite off enemy heads if the occasion calls. There are dozens of levels and plenty of memorable boss battles to keep gameplay fresh.

One of the most charming aspects of the game is humor, which should come as no surprise considering its origins. Alien Hominid HD had its humble beginnings over on Newgrounds. Although I’ve not used the site in a while, it used to be a treasure trove of user-made Flash content. This is the same place that brought us the incredibly successful Castle Crashers. This is another title that’s seen numerous ports to other platforms over the years.

Based on the Steam description, it looks like Alien Hominid HD retains its Co-op gameplay from the original. Curiously, the Steam Page makes it seem like this feature is limited to local play only, as the title is listed as “Single Player” and “Shared/Split Screen Co-op.

While Alien Hominid HD may not have the legacy of titles like Metal Slug, it’s well worth a look if you’re a fan of the genre. Sadly, there’s no definite release date, but the YouTube Trailer and Steam page both say “2023.” Even without a date, you can still wishlist the title on the Steam Page.
