Worms creator Andy Davidson has shared an update on the development of Worms Director’s Cut 1.5 for the Amiga.

One of the retro gaming releases I’m looking forward to most at the moment is the Worms Director’s Cut 1.5. Announced last year by Andy Davidson, it had an initial launch date of January 2025 — but we’re well past that date now.

I’m not the only one who is excited, either. I’m in a long queue, along with the team behind Amiga Addict (who issued a Worms special) and almost every other Amiga user in the world!

Worms Director’s Cut 1.5 update

This week, Andy issued an update on development of the new Amiga anniversary edition of Worms. The most important facet to this is that Andy lost his mum in January, which along with working through old code, has set things back.

But he states that “I’m making steady progress again” and in this update on X (formerly Twitter) includes a level of “Worms x Llamasoft”!

Previous updates on the game confirmed that various Amiga classics would be appearing in the game. We already know that a Turrican level is also included:

Of course, Worms has had many re-releases and remakes over the years, but this one is special. It’s for the Amiga, and it’s going to be able to run on the original hardware, and that’s just brilliant. I could easily pick up Worms on the Switch and play it right now, but there is something about the original that just feels more authentic.

The big question, though, is what do you think? I can’t wait to get Worms again, (yes, I know), but how excited are you?

And will you be heading to the chemist’s later that day? Let me know in the comments.
