Atari and iLLOGIKa have just announced that Atari Mania is coming to PlayStation 4&5 on April 4th. This follows the title’s release on the Nintendo Switch and Steam in October last year.
Atari Mania looks to shake up the traditional ‘retro compilations’ that are a dime a dozen these days. Instead, you play as the ‘Caretaker of the Atari Vault’ as you take on challenges in the guise of 150 Microgames. These Microgames feature a mix of well-known Atari properties and are pretty similar to how the Wario-Ware games show off the Nintendo catalog.
The game has an overarching plot tasking the player to protect the vault from evil dead pixels and boasts brand-new takes on many games that should keep even the most hardcore Atari enthusiasts on their toes.
There are easter eggs galore and tons of collectibles, including artwork and trivia.
Atari Mania has received mixed reviews on Steam, citing unresponsive controls and long load times. It looks like those issues are being addressed for the upcoming PlayStation release, and a patch is on the way for the Switch and Steam.
