Big news for DOOM fans as the original collection reissued in 2024 gets new expansions and physical releases are announced from Limited Run Games.

Wait, what?

This seems to have passed a few people by, but yes, the classic DOOM and DOOM II were given a remastered release in 2024. DOOM was reissued with a bunch of add-ons on PC (you can get it on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

Also included in this remastered release was increaded frame rates and compatibility with community mods, not to mention quality of life improvements. If you don’t have it, this collection is worth grabbing. At the time of writing, DOOM has 60% off on GOG.

What’s new in DOOM?

So, if you own the remastered games, or have authenticated your original game with GOG or Steam, you should already have access to the first two games plus a bunch of mods and maps and missions. One of these was Sigil, which has now been added to by Sigil II. Both are John Romero creations, and are definitely worth playing.

Following the new update, you should have:

  • DOOM
  • DOOM II
  • TNT: Evilution
  • The Plutonia Experiment
  • Master Levels for DOOM II
  • No Rest for the Living
  • Sigil & Sigil II
  • Legacy of Rust (a new episode created in collaboration by id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames)
  • A new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 maps

In total, you can play through 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps in DOOM + DOOM II. Assuming, of course, that you’re good enough… If you play on PS4 or PS5, increased storage for mod downloads is also now available.

Full notes on this can be found on the Bethesda website.
