Evercade Gets Native Port With Decemberborn’s Cathedral

Last Updated on July 5, 2022

Two new games have been announced for Evercade, and one of them is the first title to be ported to the retro gaming system, running without emulation.

Cartridge collection 27 unites Decemberborn’s Cathedral with the 8-bit edition of Alwa’s Awakening by Elden Pixels. The Evercade team are keen to emphasize the importance of Cathedral being a port, noting that Decemberborn’s game is the “first ever commercially released game designed to run on Evercade.”

This alone makes the cartridge worth buying. But what about the games themselves?

Alwa’s Awakening

Take control of Zoe, a young girl tasked with the liberation of Alwa from evil beings. With your magic staff you will jump and fight your way through a massive interconnected world, solving puzzles and defeating enemies along the way. With over 10 hours of gameplay and many areas to explore along with abilites to upgrade, the 8-Bit Edition of the award winning Alwa’s Awakening will keep you coming back for more.

Cathedral

You wake up in a world with no recollection of how you arrived there, and immediately you have one quest – to get out! Cathedral brings over 600 rooms, multiple upgrades, secrets and puzzles for you to explore along with lots of treasure to find! Use the elemental orbs to find out who you are and defeat the fearsome guardians protecting them.

Both titles are “metroidvania” style and guaranteed to deliver hours of exploration and fun on your Evercade handheld, Evercade VS, or if you’re reading this in 2023, Evercade EXP.

To pre-order Evercade Collection 27, head to the Evercade website on July 29, 2022. The cartridge will be released in October 2022. Note that the games will require the latest firmware; first generation Evercade handhelds need firmware version 1.2.x and above.
