Half-Life and Half-Life 2, appropriately enough, just won’t die. Despite being 25 years old, the original game has ben remade as Black Mesa, and still has a bunch of mods released for it every year.

One of the most notable, Codename: Loop, is a top-down shooter based around the original game. Created by ModDb-er PinkyDev, the game has proved popular enough, but that’s about to change:

A few months ago I asked Valve for permission to publish my Half-Life fan game on Steam and… guess what? Codename: Loop is coming to Steam, hopefully with a demo later this year!

This has resulted in some changes. While Valve are clearly impressed with the mod, its original title of “Half-Life: Loop” has had to be changed, for obvious reasons. PinkyDev has also abandoned the Patreon page to avoid the “pressure” of updating it and focus on releasing Codename: Loop. Also notable is that compatibility with BSP maps for the Source engine will be retained, levels can be created in the J.A.C.K level editor, as can custo campaigns.

Moreover, there will also be an option to switch from top-down to an over-the-shoulder third-person view.

At this stage, there is no stated release date for the Steam version, so all eyes are on the demo’s release. Keep up to date with Codename: Loop on ModDb.
