Choose from three low-budget tiers to support the Gaming Retro Patreon, which will keep the site ad-free.
This week, I’ve launched a new stage in the development of Gaming Retro. I’ve become ever more obsessed with playing old games, and I suspect I’m not alone. So, to help me cover the costs of hosting and to expand what I can do with the site, I’ve launched this Patreon:
It gives you the opportunity to not just support the site, but also help me to make key decisions.
I’ve defined three basic tiers for you to select, and with that support, I can worry less about paying the web host and focus more on building Gaming Retro into the vast retro gaming megalith that exists in my head.
What’s the deal with the Gaming Retro Patreon?
With your ongoing help, I will be able to expand the site into a huge resource for retro gamers.
A quick overview: the vision of the site is that it should have reviews of games, reviews of devices, and guides for getting games running on any current system.
No complexity — I’m talking quick-step guides; quick fire guides.
I want people to be able to play old games with as little effort as possible. Whether it’s old PC games on an Android phone or Mega Drive games on modern desktop PC, I’m aiming to present solutions that enable everyone to play classic games in the most frictionless way.

So, when I talk to my non-retro gamer friends about a specific game we used to play, and they express an interest in replaying it, I want it to be as easy as possible for them to find the game and play it. For some games, this is easy — for others, less so. By bringing this information into one place, we can share easy steps for would-be retro gamers and newbies, and identify what is tougher to run and find ways to improve that.
I am under no illusion that this is a massive undertaking. There is no point waiting around — it needs to be done.
How you can help
Your support is preferable to Google ads, and should make kicking off this next phase of Gaming Retro a lot faster than relying on endless naff, ugly ads.
While a handful of Amazon and other affiliate links are present, they’re there for future growth (we’ve made a staggering £2.06 so far in 2025). They’re also specifically for retro gamers.
By supporting the Gaming Retro Patreon, we keep it ad-free, and I can start on the big expansion.
