As if GoldenEye 007 wasn’t awesome enough, you can now play a mod that adapts that other great Bond movie, The Spy Who Loved Me, into GoldenEye-style missions.

First launched in 2020, the mod has developed from a few demo levels into a full GoldenEye 007-esque campaign mod.

The Spy Who Loved Me is a full campaign mod for GoldenEye that aims to recreate the original film from 1977. Please keep in mind this is a work in progress. I’m showcasing the 11 playable levels in this build that was given to me, this time on emulator instead of real hardware.

The project has been tested to run on N64 hardware, but requires an Expansion Pak. If you don’t have that or the console, there is the emulation option, where the best performance has been found with 1964 (it works on Project 64, but not as well).

Of course, this isn’t the first adaptation of The Spy Who Loved Me. Back in 1990, following the success of the Licence to Kill game, Domark released a top-down shooter in a similar vein to th earlier game. This version of The Spy Who Loved Me relies heavily on the movie’s vehicles, but isn’t as memorable as Licence to Kill.

For many, this new GoldenEye 007 mod redresses the balance somewhat. You can find the mod at N64 Vault.
