A new bunch of SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis have been added to Nintendo Switch Online. These SEGA Nintendo Switch games can be found in the SEGA Mega Drive virtual console, which can be installed remotely on the console in the eShop or with the console in your hand.
The new SEGA games on added to Nintendo’s library of retro games are:
- Golden Axe II
- Alien Storm
- Columns
- Virtua Fighter 2

Golden Axe II
Is this SEGA game new to you? It’s different to the arcade game Golden Axe II: The Revenge of Death Adder, and was released as a SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis-only game. Like the first, it is a side-scrolling hack and slash adventure.
Alien Storm
Guide the Alien Busters from taking over the earth in this side-scrolling action game. Alien Storm is a in the vein of Robocop, Midnight Resistance, etc., and is a good conversion of the arcade classic.
Columns
An old personal favourite of mine from the SEGA Game Gear (I remember getting this SEGA game new), Columns is probably the only thing that came close to being a competitor to Tetris. The aim is to match three columns of the same colour.
Virtua Fighter 2
The sequel to SEGA’s Virtua Fighter, the Mega Drive version of the game doesn’t use 3D graphics, but instead 2D background and sprite characters. While not as advanced as the Genesis or arcade versions, it looks and plays well nonetheless.

You don’t need to buy the cartridges and run the original hardware to play these new SEGA game releases on your Nintendo Switch. They’re even optimized for a Switch controller (although you can buy a Mega Drive/Genesis controller for the Switch).
