In late 2022 developer WhiteFeather revealed the beginning of a Sonic 3D Blast remake. This is a game (also known as Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island) that was released on the Sega Saturn back in 1996 and considered by Sonic fans as “the last good one.”

However, the game has not aged well, and its 3D gaameplay appearance does not stand up well against modern iterations. The solution? Remake Sonic 3D Blast, but with better graphics and modern gameplay.

The latest update of this alpha release features the following revisions:

Sonic 3D Flickies’ Island Remake ► UPDATE – Ver. 0.12 Pre-Alpha
[Changelog]
►New Dubbed Voices [TEST] has been added.
►Tails Model changed in New Title Screen has been added.
►New Flowering Grass texture has been added.
►New Vegetation and Animations has been added.
►2 New Animations for Sonic has been added.
►An Blast Spring has been added.
►Scouter (Badnik) has been added. PS: Not 100% Functional.
►Two different Moles has been added.
►New Areas and Loop has been added.
►Item Box Ring has been added.
►Character Knuckles has been added.
►Fix some bugs.
►For some reason there is FPS drop. The game is unstable.

This being the newly-sensitive Sega, however, the clock is ticking on whether this project will ever see the light of day. But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get involved. WhiteFeatherProjects is looking for volunteers to work on this labour of love.

Will this ever be released? No one knows. But there’s an opportunity to work on it if you have free time, and gain some kudos as a team member on a project that quite a few people are excited about…
