Sega Mega Drive Kickstarter Game “Astebros” Fully Funded

Another well-deserved retro Kickstarter game funding success.

A fantastic new treat is coming to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic, thanks to a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign for an awesome new retro roguelite called Astebros.

No matter how far digital media progresses, fans of the origins will never falter. If you’re a buff of retro games, you know just how precious original and refurbished consoles are. You have your collections, and you’ve maintained access to all the older classics because, frankly, there’s just nothing like it.

Unfortunately, you can only beat Golden Axe so many times before you start craving more or something new (even if that takes 30+ years). Lucky for us, there’s a totally brand new game coming out to ring your nostalgia bells while also delivering a fresh experience for retro gaming fans. Thanks to Neofid Studios and their successful Kickstarter campaign, Astebros, a new retro game, is coming to Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic.

According to a report on Nintendo Life, Neofid’s campaign for their new Kickstarter game managed to surpass a $50,000 goal by almost 30%, bringing the total dollar amount to $64,476 and counting. With about 800 backers, they blew their goal out of the water, and they estimate a smooth development path leading to a launch on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic sometime in March of 2023.

Players are excited to learn that this Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic title will feature a unique story mode with single-player and multiplayer functionalities. There are three different characters to choose from, including The Ranger, The Mage, and The Knight. They all have varying attacks and playstyles, so there’s room for multiple playthroughs.

As mentioned above, the gameplay and art style of Astebros is reminiscent of titles made for the original Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classic and other 8-bit and 16-bit hardware from the dawn of arcade gaming. They’ve also announced a potential release to the Nintendo Switch and Steam. If you don’t have the Sega Mega Drive or Genesis Classic consoles, you can still purchase this game when it releases.
